Alfort Biscuit

“Biscuit cookie with a layer of milk chocolate”. Like a wheat biscuit topped with some bland milk chocolate. But I’m not one to say no to a biscuit or milk chocolate so this is pretty good. Not quite in the league of the little schoolboy but I would eat these if they were offered to me.

Nori-komi Furikake Senbei

Very large, and yet very light rice cracker. A tiny bit sweet. Very crunchy and processed. Strange, now that I think about it.

Ajitsuke Nori

Seasoned nori that had a strange sweet tang to it. I’m not sure I would eat this with rice, or actually even eat it by itself.

Shake Shack

Five months sure zips by! A few things I have learned during this process: It’s almost impossible to think I can eat at a different lunch spot every day for an entire year. I just can’t do it. I can try, but I’m a creature of habit, and when I like things, I tend to consume it until it’s totally unavailable forever. This is the case with crispy salmon skin at Dishes. There is no way that I can only have that once a year if I know that Dishes is serving it.

Revel in the Meatpacking District

This is technically brunch, but since we’re here, I might as well log it. So we are in the Meatpacking District, somewhat randomly, and looking for a place to have some brunch. Rickshaw Dumpling Truck/Frieze Art Fair

I’m on Randall’s Island today, and I’m STARVING. I’m here for the Frieze Art Fair and right off the bus I notice there are several food trucks so I’m going to have lunch at Rickshaw Dumpling Truck. I can’t wait.

Good Burger

Trying to eat light isn’t easy. Part of the problem is I get so hungry by lunchtime I’m ready to eat anything, and a large quantity of it. The other problem is the portion sizing at most places is just too large. I guess I can just stop eating at a certain point and not finish everything on my plate, but that’s going to take some time to get to.

PJ Clarke’s Lincoln Center

This is just about the last place in the entire city I’d expect to wind up for lunch. But here I am.

Fifth Avenue Epicure

There’s a smelly deli on 5th Avenue, and you’ve passed it a million times but never noticed it. Maybe it’s because you always thought it was going out of business, or thought it was abandonned?

Momofuku Ssam Bar

I was originally going to have lunch today at Momofuku Noodle Bar because I saw the kimchi stew bowl on their lunch menu. But as it turns out, it wasn’t on the menu. I was so very disappointed. It’s one of the best things ever, this kimchi stew. Oh well.
